Skin Rejuvenation
In the plastic surgery world, it is often said that. . . “At twenty you will have the skin that you were born with . . . at fifty you will have the skin that you deserve!!!”

So let’s take a little closer look here. You are a mature adult in your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s or older and your skin has been exposed to years and years of the elements, the sun, the wind, pollutants. . . not even to mention tobacco smoke. Take a look and what do you see. . . you see those fine lines under your eyes or possibly vertical lines of your upper lip or you see some darker pigmented spots on your forehead or on your cheeks. Or you may see areas of uneven pigmentation throughout the skin of your face. This is where Skin Rejuvenation comes in because no amount of surgery will correct what it took the elements forty years to do.

Now, I know what you’re going to say. . . “Doctor, you mean laser?”. . . no, I don’t mean laser. I mean Chemical Peeling of the skin. There is no modality (including laser) which treats and eliminates the fine wrinkles of the skin like Chemical Peeling.

You know, there was a time when patients would come to me and have just a Face Lift or just an Eye Lift or just a Brow Lift or just a Neck Lift, that was all they had and the performance of that one procedure would conclude the treatment program. Yes, that was the norm sometime ago it is certainly not the norm today!!! For today most patients will undergo some form of skin conditioning, rejuvenation or resurfacing in conjunction with their surgery. That’s what really highlights the surgery and brings out the finest results. I know this may come as a surprise to you, but how many of you have seen those magnificent before and after photographs in the media and thought they were due to surgery alone, I assure you they are not. They are due to surgery plus skin conditioning and that is the secret!

Skin conditioning, of course, is an in-office procedure and usually is performed three months after your facial surgery. However, it can be performed concurrently with the surgery as long as the area to be peeled is different from the operative site. In other words, if I do a Neck Life I can concurrently peel your eyes; if I do a Brow Lift I can peel your lips and cheeks at the same time. What I can’t do is perform a Face Lift and Eye Lift and then concurrently do a peeling of the entire facial skin and eyes. There you have to wait three months.

Dermabrasion and Chemical Peel
In our practice at the Pavilion for Cosmetic Surgery, we are very enthusiastic about modalities that are considered tried and true throughout the years. Certainly, Dermabrasion and Chemical Peeling are two of the most successful treatment regiments we have extended to our patients.

In both, the top layers of the skin surface are removed and thereby stimulating the growth of new skin. Both modalities are wonderful for minimizing facial wrinkling, blotchiness, uneven coloration and in general produce an exciting freshness to the face.

Both Dermabrasion and Chemical Peeling are used as axillary treatments to our other rejuvenation procedures, such as, face lifting and eye lifting. We have continued to use them successfully . . . with excellent results . . . for over 30 days.
